Struggles and Triumphs of a Weightloss Journey: Guest Post

Remember those first few days, weeks, months of blogging? Reading your first comment, making your first bloggy friend? Your first time guest posting???

Chancy is getting used to all of those feelings and I'm most excited for you to meet her! So enjoy Get to know her through her humble and inspiring fitness journey. Then, be sure to stop by her super cute blog and say HI !!!

Hi Heart Shape Sweat friends
Today I am guest posting for Kristine
while she is spending time with those precious boys of hers, all 3 of them :)

I'm Chancy & I blog at NewlyWed Fun

Since Kristine is so athletic I choose to write about my fitness journey.

All through high school I wasn't really skinny but not fit either. I played sports until my junior year and then decided that it wasn't that important anymore. I had played outside of high school as well and think I was most likely burnt out. I graduated and went to Lubbock to attend college. My college lifestyle was definitely not the healthiest so of course I gained about 15 pounds. During college I signed up for yoga :) which btw if you haven't tried it, you should, people joke that it is not a workout but I disagree.  Other than yoga I chose to work full time, so no other activities. At this point I was super unhealthy, fast food, wine, college life=not good. I moved back to my hometown in 2008 nothing changed besides my weight went up a little more. In 2009 (my magical year) I started working out with a friend of mine who I worked with.

We had a Biggest Loser Challenge at my work and that officially started my workout journey.
I won :) I lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks, an awesome start!

Brittni (friend from the bank) was not athletic at the time, so we started from scratch. Literally, girls scratch like walking almost 80% of the time and that was not our original goal. We got addicted to running and ran everyday after work, some days I would run twice a day because it felt so good

I felt so good about myself, inside and out. It was such a stress reliever to know that during those 40-60 minutes no one would interrupt me and I could have the music as loud as I wanted and have my OWN thoughts. It was amazing.

This was one of the first couple of races.

Brittni and I did our first race in September 2009 and I got 1st in my age group, if that isn't the boast any of us runners needed. It was a small race but still first is first. After that we started signing up for races around the adjoining counties, we lived to run. I will add that we were not changing up our routine for the most part we changed our course occasionally but not the workout. Our pace improved by about 15 seconds max. After about 8 months straight of running 5-6 times a week I started making excuses to not go and run. I look back now and know that I was so burnt out on running

I am way too outgoing to only run and not try anything else.

Fast forward to the end of 2010... I met my now hubby D, of course I made every excuse possible to not work out and to spend time with him. I once again put all that weight BACK on. If any of you have been in my shoes it's like that weight appears over night.

I never notice how much weight is back... until it's too late and BAM it's going to take a while to get it all off. It is so discouraging.

D and I got engaged in 2011 and married in 2012 throughout our engagement I worked anywhere from 3-4 at a time just trying to put my self through college, so no workouts again. I briefly hired a trainer during the engagement but just could not keep up with the demanding work schedules and the exhausting workouts.

Here we are 2013, I have made goals for this year (I will share on my blog soon) . I want to be the girl who loved to run and have my own time, but I also want to help other people feel the way I do about running.

Y'all if you have never run/walk/biked/swam laps I challenge you to get out of your house for 40-60 minutes twice a week. I would love to see pictures of you working out and your opinions. I am in no way a trained fitness anything but I am a small town girl who has always struggled with my weight and I promise I will help you stay motivated. We need motivation and honestly the best motivation is to see someone else doing it and not making excuses.

(After the Color Run in Austin, TX)

Exercise can clear your head like nothing else.
I hope all you ladies come and visit me at my blog :)

I couldn't agree with her more! Exercise does as much for the mind as it does the body!
You can def count on Chancy being a part of your fit life journey!

Meet, Greet and WIN the April Sponsor Giveaway!

Have you met Heart Shaped Sweat's April Sponsors?
I feel so blessed and lucky to have had them with me this month!!!
This month (just like last month) lead me to some amazing blogs.
I truly hope you've taken the time to click and see for yourself.
In case you haven't lets hit 'em up one at a time and then you can get in on the giveaway fun :)

Rebecca. I met her through Big and Littles and couldn't have asked for a better partner. She's an infectious person...meaning her happiness is contagious! One conversation with her will send you off in the best of spirits. You might remember her guest post on the benefits of laughter, there she reminds us to live life happy and never be to serious to miss a chance at a fall-out-laughing-fit. I could link you to various posts, but I'm just gonna link you to her blog. Go see for yourself. Her happiness beams through every post.

Bonnie guest posted about his Biggest Looser tryouts and Crossfit journeys. He's proof that making little changes towards healthy living can produce some big results. He teaches us the keys to success by reminding us of the 5 key people every one of us need in our lives. Bonnie is a Roden and Feilds Consultant and clearly knows a thing or two about marketing, even scoring profits by simply using Pinterest.

Natalie, girls got a voice that should be heard! Her blog covers everything from fashion to current events. She's got tips on how to win a giveaway for all of us that feel overwhelmed by the options to enter and the simple math required to know when the odds are in our favor. I cracked up over her post detailing letters from prison. Yes, her husband knows about this too! And was enlightened by her voice on dealing with others negativity, being true to yourself and standing behind your blog.

Chrissy, one of the queens for blog hops like That Friday Blog Hop and Thirsty Thursdays! Her blog is filled with posts that show a woman's real side. I love her makeup tutorials and adore the fact that she's not afraid to show the real her, makeup free! She shares her fertility struggles and the tough family decisions that come along with such a sensitive issue. And then, she'll send you off into hysterics by showcasing the way best friends get down!

Carolyn, a busy woman who does it all with style and grace. Her other blog showcases her incredible photography skills and over at CC Makes Stuff you'll find one of kind necklaces, headbands, rings and more, each handmade! Her posts will renew and restore your faith and give you courage through the times that hurt. And if you're feeling crafty, in DIY mode any one of her before and after posts will inspire you and help you along!

Martha a mother of four holds the oh,so funny answers to every child's "that's not fair" scream. Don't let the pretzels and glass of wine for dinner fool you, she's sprinted many races and knows her way around the athletic department. She's got dreams for a WhatTheWhat kind of link up, you know for posts that go a little like this... And for all you pup lovers out there, she's rescued one that gives the best doggy hugs ever.

Jill a sucker for vintage and quaint thrift-iquing, a lover of coffee and cream. One heck of a styled momma with a happy crafting heart. There that's it in one sentence. Ok two. Jill's a one stop shop for melt your heart in posts like failing parenting 101 and not being a supermom and she'll remind you to shine in your most beautiful light no matter how hard times are. She works hard, writing for a magazine and serving in a saloon and while she's far up in the mountains, I have a map and would love to one day enjoy a cup of joe with her.

Sarah, she's forever sprinkling us with genius words, inspiring the best in each of us. You know those words that just make you think, ponder and quietly change perspective.  Her blog delicately delivers those to you. She talks about a tugging at the heart for change and the beauty in the world that spins around completely unaware. There's a poet air about her, a calming effect in each post. Snapshots of her home that need no earlybird filter and a weekly On the Inside Series that will send you swooning.

Balls of Energy! A No-Bake Recipe for you...

I'm always looking for a great new recipe. When I find one that boast only one dish and doesn't require stove top or oven time, I know I've struck gold. What makes a recipe like this even better? A boost of energy!

Let me introduce you to Kim :)
Kim blogs at Diary of a Jewell and while her blog is filled with all sorts of tips and tricks, I die for each one of her recipes. I'm excited to have her here sharing a recipe that requires no baking, one dish and gives a HUGE boost of energy! Needless to say, it's a healthy one too!

Diary of a Jewell, Kim

I could not be more excited to be posting here on Heart Shaped Sweat!

I only recently started following Kristine’s blog but I kind of feel like we are already friends. We’ve never met (in real life) and she lives in another country, across the continent…that’s not weird right? In fact, I think it is completely normal and considering we both love the same things, I think the friendship is definitely warranted.

It is pretty obvious that I have pretty big shoes to fill today, so I wanted to create a recipe that not only fit well on Heart Shaped Sweat, but was also easy and really good for you. In the Fall I was using pumpkin in pretty much everything and I adapted a recipe to create these delicious, nutrient packed pumpkin energy balls. Now with Spring on the horizon, I have been craving something a bit sweeter, so I created another variation of these energy balls to include fruit. Not only did they turn out delicious, I think these energy balls fit right into Kristine’s busy lifestyle, and hopefully they will find a place in yours too!Enjoy!
Cranberry Orange and Almond Energy Balls

Cranberry, Orange & Almond Energy Balls

Yields about 20 Balls

Ingredients
¼ Cup Rolled Oats
¼ Cup Protein Powder (I use vanilla)
¼ Cup Almond Flour
¼ Cup Dates
½ Cup Almond Butter
½ Cup Craisins (Dried Cranberries)
4 Tablespoons of Orange Juice
4 Tablespoons Agave Syrup
½ Cup Coconut – for rolling (optional)

Instructions
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Add all of the ingredients, except the coconut to the food processor.
snacks for energy

Pulse until the items are well combined.
If you find your mixture is too thick add more orange juice until it is the desired consistency.

snacks for energy

Portion and roll into individual balls.
I like to use a small cookie scoop, but a table spoon will work just as well. The mixture will be very sticky (which is why I choose to roll in coconut). Don’t be concerned, the balls will set in the fridge.
snacks for energy

Roll in coconut and set on the cookie sheet. Refrigerate overnight (or at least 8 hours) this will allow the balls to set and all of the flavors to combine.

These will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks but will last as long as 3 months in the freezer. I like to keep about 10 out and then freeze the rest. You can take them out as you need them, they thaw quite quickly and are the perfect snack to grab when you're on the go!

**********************************************************************************************

ummmmm, isn't she great! Little balls of energy in a NO BAKE recipe! That's the best of both worlds!
I'm eager to give this recipe a try, I'm sure you are too. She couldn't be more right, this fits right into my busy lifestyle. I'll definitely be adding this to my list of healthy snacks!

Be sure to stop by Kims blog and say hello!
If you've enjoyed this recipe let her know!
Take a few minutes & browse through her tips and other recipes too!

Update & March Madness {Link UP}

I hope you've had a chance to link up and hop around the Monday Mingling Hop!!!

Just last week I shared two goals for the month of March. I feel really good about the 30in30 challenge, so far I've squeezed in 12 of the 30 miles! And remember the cleanse I told you about? We're done! WoooHooo! Honestly, I can't even express how happy I am with having finished all 7 days. There were some serious moments of temptation. It didn't take much for my mind to wander to foods other than the allowed ones of the day. Our usual food prep for the week has improved drastically and the fridge is overflowing with healthy snacks//deserts. The cleanse had a great effect on all of us. I'm excited to share the details with you later in the week! Meanwhile check out this MADNESS!!

Perception Is Everything

I'm starting to think Janna over at Perception is Everything can read minds. This is all her idea and I love it!
Do you ever feel like you're spinning your wheels? Getting everything done for the day but never really ready for the weeks to come? Janna's idea for March Madness is a fun link-up that will help us hold each other accountable. Simply create a to-do list and share it! It can be anything from fitness to fashion, school to work, home projects to budget challenges. "All that matters is that you tackle something from your list and we'll help you be accountable"! It's just what I need to get my booty in gear with ALL my to-do's!

Today's focus is fitness related.
I'm excited to be in this weeks madness and able to invite you all to join!

March Madness {Fitness} to-do's...
- try a local barre class
- complete my 30in30 challenge
- set a 6 mile PR in preparation for next months 10K
- be at the gym 2-3x's a week focusing on more cardio and weights
- look into fitness certification classes for the summer
- sign up for another spring race

It may seem like a long list but I love my fitness, it's part of my everyday life! During the summer months I add running to my off-nights from the gym but this year I've decided to start early. Running makes a huge difference in my endurance and appearance. I'll also keep working on extending my plank time. I'm back up to 4 minutes! I should probably add a reward to this list. You'll know I believe in rewarding yourself along the way, so I'm adding new running shoes. I need//want them badly. Any suggestions?

With summer lingering at just a few months away, now is the perfect time to create your "fit" to-do list!
If you've already posted one for the month, you can link that up too!

Be sure to visit Perception is Everything and say Hello!!
Can't wait to see ALL that you have planned for this month :) We'll cheer each other on!

How Do You Search for New Friends?

What to do when your're procrastinating?
When you should be doing more productive things than just staring at your computer screen?
Check the search terms that lead people to your blog....

hot military girl in dress (ah, now I know why that's a number one viewed post)
image of people quitting exercise (what?! you'd never find that here!)
mommy fitness blog (yay!!)
what does a woman wear to military ball (I really hoped they liked my dresses!)
heart shaped asses (I laugh! I think some also call that an "onion butt")
healthy snacks (score! I need to do more post like this, yes?)
aquaphlor (this tickles me pink, I carry it more than my cell phone)
encouraging words for reaching goals (by far, my favorite!)

Obviously these lookers weren't out to find new blogs to follow but if they were I'd hope they'd stumble upon me today. I'm introducing you to 3 beautiful ladies, each unique and simply awesome in all bloggy ways. Take some time to hop over and say Hi! it's great to find new friends! And, since it's almost Valentine's Day...I did a little digging of my own and made sure to link in their love stories! You know, for all of you romantic peeps that can't pass up a once upon a time, how it all began love story...

Meet Kimberly!
Kimberlys Korner featured at Heart Shaped Sweat
She's been blogging since 2009, hanging with the best of them! She's a giver, the sentimental kind. Kimberly has a huge heart and has shown her support for many causes like this and this. When she's not spoiling her children and her pup Tucker, you might find her in the city watching a Broadway Show, taking in the beauty of Paterson Fallstouring the Cowboys Stadium or cheering for the Yankees. She's a Jersey girl and fittingly shares beautiful and saddening pictures of the Jersey Shore. A shortcut to getting to know Kimberly is here in her 10 things about me and I recommend you keep up with her weekly Everyday Advice Series! She has a strong, loyal readership in which she offers advice to and gains from. We all love advice from a pro, right? Here's a sweet message to long lasting marriages and what I bet is the best promise he ever kept with her!

Be sure to get by Kimberly's Korner and say Hello!!! I'm know you'll enjoy her blog, as much as I do!

And now meet Emma!
Chasing Texas featured at Heart Shaped Sweat
She may have started her blog with intentions of posting all things "weddings" but you'll only find one post on that subject unless you count this one, then it's two. Emma has a funny bone and shows it in post like how to become someone else and her weekly recaps of the Bachelor, she even inserts humor on serious subjects like being radioactive for the weekend. I mean, who else can say dinosaurs had a lot to do with meeting their fiance? Read about that and her incredibly sweet surprise engagement story here.  Chat over coffee or take this shortcut to get to know her better in her facts of me post.

Whatever, whichever way you click, be sure to head over to Chasing Texas and say Hello!!!

And....Meet Jen!
Team Bowen featured at Heart Shaped Sweat
She's a stroller striding momma who can make a regular maxi dress look bombshell even at 30+ weeks pregnant. She's not scared of a drill or hand sander, has an insane mason jar collection, and has mastered many pins like these dispensers, organization, and holiday decor. If you ever wondered how your great grandmother made bread or how to squeeze in more veggies and fruits by juicing, she's got you covered. Thai Curry Stir Fry anyone? Oh, rather a cheesey dish? Should we skip dinner and go straight for dessert? Eat on-the-go kind of gal? Try homemade granola bars. And because we're all a bunch of saps, here's a pastor's wife love story.

Take your pick and hop over to Team Bowen, go say Hello!

So there's a ton of search terms and links to their blogs!
Get to clicking!!! I know you'll enjoy getting to know them as much as I have!

Don't be shy, go say Hi :)

Mystery Host w/ Wednesday Walkabout Blog Hop!

I'm so, very excited to have been chosen as Mystery Co-Host of the Wednesday Walkabout hop! This hop has introduced to me to a wonderful group of ladies and I'm hoping you'll take some time to get to know me a little better too! By all means, don't just follow along because it's recommended by the hop rules :)

I blog life. I blog family. I blog fitness. I hope to motivate and inspire...healthy, fit lives! Posting on this subject has certainly helped me hold myself accountable. I love food (ahem, desserts) just as much as the next girl...but I also crave healthy snacks and salads.

Staying in shape is a top priority for me and my family. Hubs is Army, his days include mandatory physical fitness training. But for the rest of us....well, we have dig down for motivation and keep focus on our goals. All of my posts are from the heart especially the fitness ones. I've feared the gym, have you? I've wondered how do you know you're runner and searched for tips to be better at running. My New Year resolutions included a review of my weakest links....searching my chain of strengths and improving where need be. I've had my setbacks and I've had some victories. I believe in sharing my experiences with you and am motivated even further by all the stories you share back with me.

I spit out a random fashion post or two and I make my own sunshine. I love viewing all the fashion post in this huge blogsphere and am forever inspired to try new fashions. I wholeheartedly love the joke "if only everything I pinned, appeared in my closet".

I have two handsome boys that light up my world and one amazing husband. We're a military family, but it doesn't define us.  Our pride in this country is endless and our action to call is one in a million+. While the Army sends us where they may we'll always have our roots.

I hope you find reasons to stick around. Pretty please, drop a line! -so I know who you are. I'd love to hop over to say hello!! Enjoy another round of Wednesday Walkabout :)

What is a Walkabout? It's a blog link-up party, every week here and with our co-hosts! Simply put your blog address or a specific post in the linky, visit some other people, and make some friends. Easy at that! I can't wait to talk to everyone!

PS: You only have to link up with ONE of the co-hosts!

The Rules:

1. Please follow at least ONE hostess, and let us know you're a new follower and how to follow you! To be entered as next week's Mystery Host, follow all hosts from this week.

Mystery Host Kristine- Heart Shaped Sweat

Gathered Answers and a Few Suggestions...

I've had bad blogger manners. 4 of these bad boys have come way. And I never acted on any of them until now! And now....it's a little late, according to the rules. So, I figured it would still be fair and lots of fun to play with the idea behind it. You've got questions. I've got answers. I dug back into some archives and grabbed a few questions from each blogger that so thoughtfully sent it my way...

I sincerely appreciated each one and loved that someone had me on their mind and gave a shout out. I genuinely care about the interaction here in this little corner. I started this journey completely clueless. Literally. The last time I fooled with HTML was MySpace. And how many years ago was that?! While learning codes, my writing style, my passion for this blog, realizing I should start using twitter again, balancing this crazy new 'obsession' to check emails, write posts, edit photo's and learn more....I've gotten to know some wonderful ladies and gained a better understanding to what it means when someone says 'the blogging community is close knit and one of a kind'.

So, this week, when the Liebster Award (yes, that's the bases of all of this) showed itself again, I realized what an ass I had been for not going through it with it...technically it's for blogs of 200 or less, so I'm putting my own little spin on it, no award here and no award passed along. I now see it as a chance to share a little about me and as a chance to direct a reader to another open door of.... hello, friend! And a real time to.......

If you're upset or offended by me at this point...I understand but say, don't be. Pretty please?!

random tidbits
1. I envy my dog, she has it made
2. I like to clean and fold laundry but hate to put it away
3. I'm not keen on waterparks much prefer poolside or oceanfront
4. I can fold my tongue into a 3 leaf clover
5. I have 1,000 too many seashells
6. I'm clumsy. like stub my toe, hit head into cabinet door clumsy
7. I love days with open sun roofs and/or endless roads to run
8. My husband and my boys mean the world to me
9. I straighten my already stick straight hair
10. My first bike was green, complete with bears, banana seat, streamers and spoke beads
11. I will always drop my 5th glass of vodka//ginger. always.
