Not So Typical...

Typically, you find some kind of Motivation here on Mondays. But it's been anything but typical 'round here. I even debated on whether to post or not. So hang with me as I share Super Bowl from the eyes of a mom and her 12 year old son. Hubs got out for the real Super Bowl fun, he deserved it especially since he's played Mr. Mom as I work overtime.

Both kids are down with the flu bug since Thursday. Maybe you caught one of my tweets like this ....

yes. worst decision ever. We always get the flu shot, why did we skip it this year?! Any claims that the flu shot is ineffective or it gives you the flu were proven wrong by my two boys. Never again will we face the flu season without flu shots.

Other A-Typical happenings thanks to Super Bowl 2013....

kicking off the Super Bowl by watching 'sexy' meet 'smart' via GoDaddy. Now seriously, that ad was geared to appeal to the horniest man at the bar, the one drinking heavily and lacking the intention of ever owning a domain. clever marketing, not so sure about that. memorable,  yes probably. awkward to watch with your 12 year old son...most definitely.

wanting a mini van. WHAT?!! when has this chick ever thought of owning a minivan, never! but, I gave it some thought after watching super mom create a killer football team for her son and the "epic playdate" commercial had me seriously considering a mini-van's level of coolness compared to my VW Passat. And then Audi reminded me of their awesomeness at which point, I told Lance, "Sorry, your Mom will never drive a mini-van and you will never speed off from prom with a black eye."

being ever so grateful for Destiny's Child. If you were accompanied by your tween son like me...you were eternally grateful for the "crazy in love" dance moves to stop. I mean, the woman's incredible. I'm a long time fan, her voice, looks, ability -it all adds up to dynamite. But as much as I enjoyed the show, I thought, oh s*hit what goes through a tween boy's mind?!! ha!

feeling like The Rock. milk is mandatory in this house. My 3 L's drink up a gallon, almost daily. and yes, I dodge the mishap of running out of milk and have been seen buying it in last nights pajama's.

wanting a beer. a Budwieser at that. I hardly ever drink beer but show me a cowboy, play some Stevie Nicks....and all of a sudden, I'm considering a cold one. Then I remembered the Sky Vodka in the freezer and the Ginger Ale in the fridge and went for a refill and new slice of lime.

What is typical for me and my household and yours too (I'm sure) is....supporting our troops.

There isn't a day that goes by in which we don't think about//talk about//pray for our troops. There isn't a day that camo doesn't walk in and out of my front door or lay in a puddle on my bedroom floor. Not a day without the sound of clinking dog tags. Or a day without the rip of velcro and toss of a PC. Years ago those sounds were absent. Thankfully, I count only 2 Super Bowls that hubby was deployed but for many others their count is as high as 10 and 12+. Our troops, our soldiers and their families have gone through some days and years of hell. We've all fought hard and it's been the support of family, friends, and organizations that makes it all possible. If Jeep wants to promote themselves with patriotism, then so be it. They were able to spread a beautiful message in their commercial last night to millions of viewers. Their marketing was not for you to get up and fill your plate, it wasn't for you to twist off another cap, or drool and envy over a hot chick. Their message was to remind us to support, to remind us that dear ones are still overseas fighting and serving and that many families aren't whole, yet. And, if you happen to purchase a Jeep, then 250 dollars of that will go towards the Operation Safe Return, a campaign Jeep partnered with through USO.

Oh, and the goats scream on the Dorrito's commercial. Very much like mine or Lucas's after the 9th time of rocking our sick babe back to sleep. Thank goodness Lance is grown, his biggest need has been as simple as a back rub or warm bowl of chicken noodle soup....ohhhh, this too shall pass!

Did you do Super Bowl? Did your team win?
Have a favorite commercial or tip for dealing with the flu?
Do share with me! Amy Poehler's commercial was my fave!

How many "F" words can you drop in a weekend?!

For when there's a lack of words or cohesive thoughts...there's pictures.

I'm exhausted
Our weekend was filled with family, friends, football and fun.
And the nights....they were full of sleepless hours, and cries from a restless toddler.

As peaceful and cute as the little one is in each picture, he really was a big terror this weekend. I'm starting to wonder if this is some evil growth spurt.
We haven't had a full nights sleep in days. Not a single one of us.
Our house is "cozy", so when little man decides to scream for endless hours we all hear it and all suffer through it. We've tried rocking, we've tried shhh-pat, diaper changes and Motrin. Lullabies and books. None of it works. The only solution to his our restless nights is -time.

disclaimer: sleep deprived blogger

Now, back to the fun stuff.  all the "F" words.

family.  friends.  fall weather fun.  and football.

Lance's team took home the win this weekend!
Family and friends came out for this early morning game, and they were not disappointed. Lance plays defensive end tackle and tackle he did! Of course, I was running after Landon so I missed what was said to be an unbelievable tackle but I heard the cheers and could tell all were impressed with Lance's reaction time and skill! His team is back on track with 5 wins and 1 lost.

We also took advantage of a nearby city, really -it's a place to escape to.
Charlettsville, VA sits in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is an ideal get-away this time of the year. We picked Carter's Mountain Orchid for our destination. And apple picking is what we did! Along with eating de-lish Apple Cider Donughts :)

*Having a tall hubby proved very useful at the orchid.

Seems we're a little late to the fun of picking apples and the only ones left where out of reach, except for Lucas's reach. No wonder every other family came equipped with an apple picker?!

If you get the chance to take a break from your city's buzz, the mountains is where to go this time of year.
We were lucky to take in the views of the Blue Ridge mountains and the Shenandoah....and get one family pic before little man took off running for his next apple.

Have you planned a fall get away to enjoy some open spaces and mountain air?
Did your favorite teams win this weekend? I'd love to hear about it!

Weekend Recap

On the Football Field or lost in the Pumpkin Patch is how we spent our weekend.

-pretty much played with balls all weekend, some rocks, and cried over a fly. total. boy. fun.

A football Pep Rally started off the fun, Friday night.
It was almost enough Pep to keep the winning streak going for my oldest sons team.
This was a big game !!! two undefeated teams played and were featured via Facebook.
Our team took it's first lost. But like coach says, we leave it on the field!

Lance is my All-Star!
My favorite football player. And I'm his loudest cheerleader.
And then their's Landon. Always stealing the show!
This kid is permanently on the GO.
He's adorably cute and supports his big brother too!

After a good nap and big lunch we headed to the pumpkin patch.
Much, much easier this year than last, considering Landon was able to walk.

Landon was a bit confused at the patch.
He thought for sure he was supposed to find the biggest rock. But with a little help from Lance and Dad, he quickly caught on.

I on the other hand wrestled more than just pumpkin vines.
I was the lucky one who caught a flying bug in her eye.
How does this happen ?!? well, you stand knee deep in the pumpkin patch, watching your boys pick their prized pumpkins, smile and take a deep breath as if to say "ah, these are the days"
and BAMMMMM, a bug flies into your eye.
Yes, lucky me. I don't know what kind of bug this was, but if I were to name it perhaps FIRE- INyour- eyeSECT would be most fitting. This bug burned. And my oldest found it hysterical. But he's prone to having hysterics. Seriously. This was not a laughing matter. Mom and Dad are fighting to get a bug out, Lance is keeled over in laughter and Landon is on the verge of being long gone at the pumpkin patch.
Spend some time with us, and you'll see the most random of things happen to us at the most convenient time.
It really was funny and made for an original Parrish memory at the pumpkin patch!

We got the classic pic....

Where did you spend your weekend? Make any new family memories? or maybe you too !!! found yourself temporarily blind in one eye at the pumpkin patch?!

Football. Finally A FAN

Growing up I didn't watch much football.
Our family calendar was filled with track meets, soccer games, and wrestling matches.

Now I'm grown and have my own family calendar.

AND....Football takes over 7 of 12 months in the year!
Our 12 year old plays defensive tackle and proudly wears his maroon #75 jersey every chance he gets.
He roots for the 'Skins.
My husband breathes, eats, and sleeps Football.
Obsessive FAN of VTech 'Hokies and follower of the 'Cowboys.

What better way to make "the hubby" happy than to surprise him with tickets and a day off from parenting!

Yes, our seats were "way up there" and we played a nonranked team but we didn't mind, we were happy to have a sitter for the day and be @ Lane Stadium.
When the rain clouds rolled in, some chose to leave and others panicked for their poncho's,
we continued to enjoy the game, thanks to the awning covering those top rows "way up there"
The critics would have many details regarding how the team played... all I can say is we won!
Victory 42-7
Hokies are one of a kind. They are grateful, highly amusing, dedicated football fanatics.

I'm happy to be a part of it...
